Discord has grown into one of the most popular online chat services for gamers. But sadly, just like any other app or service, Discord also has its fair share of problems. One is when the app stops sending notifications on Android or iPhone.
If you have been missing out on important messages and events because Discord isn’t sending notifications, we’re here to help. We’ve covered a few fixes you can try to overcome the issue in this post. So, let’s check them out.
Sometimes, when an app fails to start correctly, it might not work as intended. Thus, you can start by restarting the Discord app to see if that gets the notifications to work again.
To force close Discord on Android, tap and hold the Discord app icon and select the App info option. Tap on the Force stop button to close it.
To force close Discord on iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-tap the Home Screen button) to bring up the app switcher. Locate the Discord app and swipe upward on it to close it.
Next, you need to verify the in-app settings in the Discord app to ensure the notification settings aren’t disabled from there.
Step 1: Open the Discord app and tap on your profile icon in the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Scroll down to App Settings and tap on Notifications. Enable all the notification toggles from here.
Aside from checking notification settings on your phone, you also need to check the system notification settings on your phone to see if Discord notifications aren’t disabled from there.
Step 1: Tap and hold Discord app icon and select App info from the menu that pops up.
Step 2: On the App Info page, go to Notifications and toggle on the All Discord notifications option. Make sure Other notification settings are also enabled.
Step 1: Launch the Settings app and scroll down to tap on Discord.
Step 2: Go to Notifications and toggle on the Allow Notification option. Ensure that the app is allowed to push alerts on the Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners.
If the notification issue on Discord is limited to a few servers, then you can check to see if those servers aren’t muted. Here’s how.
Step 1: Launch the Discord app on your Android or iPhone. Select the Server you’re having issues with.
Step 2: Tap on the three-dot menu icon at the top and go to Notifications.
Step 3: Unmute the notification for that server from here.
Do Not Disturb is a useful feature found in Android and iPhone that disables all the notifications from apps and contacts. So, if you’ve accidentally switched on DND on your Android or iPhone, you might not receive notifications from the Discord app.
To disable Do Not Disturb on Android, open Settings and go to Sound. Next, tap on Do Not Disturb and turn it off.
To disable Focus mode on iPhone, open the Settings app and go to Focus. Tap on the Do Not Disturb option.
Lastly, turn off the switch next to the Do Not Disturb option.
Another reason why Discord might fail to send notifications is if the app isn’t allowed to use data in the background. Here’s how to check.
Step 1: Press and hold the Discord icon and select App info from the menu.
Step 2: Navigate to ‘Mobile data and Wi-Fi’ and enable the switches next to ‘Background data’ and ‘Unrestricted data usage’ are enabled.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your phone and navigate to Discord.
Step 2: Enable the switch next to Mobile Data if it isn’t already.
Updates are crucial for any app. If the problem of notifications not working occurs due to an app bug. then it’s likely that a newer version of the app has fixed the issue. Hence, you need the update the Discord app to its latest version to see if that resolves the issue.
If the issue remains, you can uninstall the Discord app and install it again. This will help clear any app data associated with the app and give it a fresh start.
Missed notifications shouldn’t be why you miss an important event or message on Discord. Hopefully, the above solutions have helped you end Discord notification issues for good.
