A new GTA Trilogy update has been announced by Rockstar Games for next week and will be coming to all available platforms.
Since Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launched at the end of last year for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, players have been holding out for a major update. Not only are the three open world classics home to numerous bugs and performance issues, there’s an overall dissatisfaction with the care and attention that went into modernising their graphics for a new generation.
Rockstar Games said “new patches are coming next week for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition across all platforms. We appreciate the community’s patience and support.”
The exact details of the GTA Trilogy update and what improvements to expect are unknown. It’s unlikely Rockstar and developer Grove Street Games have performed an overhaul, instead focusing on urgent bugs and issues reported by the player community since release day.
One of the most anticipated games of 2021, the trio of remasters hasn’t gone down too well. Despite bringing three classic Grand Theft Auto title into the modern era, each open world marvel has been blighted by performance issues, forcing Rockstar to issue an apology.
We scored the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy an underwhelming 6/10 in our review:
If you’re coming into Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy expecting each game to look and play like GTA V, prepare for disappointment at a passionless upscaling effort. On the flipside, if you fancy reliving these open world wonders with some of their rougher gameplay edges sanded down, prepare to lose yourself for sixty hours or more.
Besides Grand Theft Online continuing to print money, 2021 was an off year for Rockstar Games, having been criticised for the GTA Trilogy as well as its dwindling support of Red Dead Online. That said, gamers have been quick to overlook these problems now that GTA 6 is in development.
